In response to an increasing number of complaints about smoke and smell from garden bonfires, the Parish Council advises you as follows:
IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO BURN GARDEN WASTE, BUT YOU ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE CONSIDERATION FOR YOUR NEIGHBOURS, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT WEATHER CONDITIONS AND TIME OF DAY.
It seems obvious to say this, but always check which way the wind is blowing, check there is no washing out in the vicinity and have a word with your neighbours and tell them your intention, so they can close their windows before getting a house full of smoke!
IF YOU ARE UPSET BY A NEARBY BONFIRE YOUR FIRST RECOURSE IS TO DISCUSS IT IN AN AMICABLE MANNER WITH THE PERSON HAVING THE FIRE. IF IT BECOMES A PERSISTENT NUISANCE, CONTACT
HEREFORDSHIRE COUNCIL, ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT on 260000 or THERE IS AN ON-LINE FORM AVAILABLE.
Regrettably, inconsiderate fires are a “neighbour dispute” and not something that the Parish Council has any jurisdiction over.
